PUNE: The State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched a massive awareness drive about  Maharashtra Police Citizen Portal and App, through which people can easily lodge complaints and also track their status.

Pune District Guardian Minister Girish Bapat flagged off three vehicles which display posters and have a LED screen displaying messages to spread awareness,  at the CID headquarters on Pashan Road on Wednesday.

CID Chief Sanjay Kumar, Additional DGP Sanjeev Kumar Singhal,  Special IGP Sunil Ramanand and other officials were present on the occasion.

The web portal http://www.mhpolice.maharashtra.gov.in offers 24 services to people, seven of which will be available on the app that can be downloaded from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. With the help of the app, people can file e-complaints about any matter and track the status of the complaint or FIR registered subsequently, information about the accused, etc.

Explaining the functioning of the portal and the app, Additional Director General of Police (CID) Singhal said, “When a citizen files a complaint online, the same would be viewed by the police station officer who would check its content to decide his response. It will then be communicated by SMS to the complainant and, if necessary, an FIR will be registered on the basis of the complaint. The complainant will be able to continuously track the status of inquiry and other details. This will ensure that no complaint goes unattended.”

Officials said that through the app people can also tip-off police about any illegal or suspicious activity, or about any suspicious person. “Till now there was no option giving feedback about police services, but the citizen portal and the app has an option where people can give their feedback,” Singhal added.
