One ride at a time: 500 locations are being identified for charging e-bikes in Pune

Pune: The Standing Committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday cleared the execution of an electric-vehicles-for-rent project. The committee also sanctioned the plan for electric charging stations around the city.

The e-bike renting project will be implemented on a pilot basis and contractors will increase e-bikes in phased manner. The proposed plan is to install 2,000 charging points around 500 locations in the city with 3,000 to 5,000 e-bikes to ply on the road in the initial phases.

Hemant Rasne, Chairman of Standing Committee said that to reduce the use of fuel-based vehicles that release harmful gases and pollute the surroundings, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has given consent to this project. The standing committee also claimed that this project will progress the city’s air quality and assist to provide a feeder service for the Pune Metro lines.
