Onion prices hit Rs 120/kg at APMC

PUNE: Onion prices reached Rs 120 per kg on Tuesday at the wholesale market in Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC), Pune.

The wholesale prices at other APMCs like Solapur and Sangamner hit Rs 150 per kg and Rs 171 per kg respectively.

“The supply of old onions has reduced as there are hardly any left. Therefore, the price has increased to Rs 120 per kg.”

“New onion is sold for around Rs 60 to Rs 65 per kg as there is very little good quality onion of kharif season available,” said Vilas Bhujbal, President, Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard Aadte Association.

“Price will continue like this till January-end. However, the onion price might not accelerate further but there are no chances of the price to decrease in the near future.”

However, Ministry of Consumer Affairs in a press statement on Tuesday reduced the stock limit of onions to 25 MT for wholesalers and 5 MT for retailers across all the states and Union territories.
