Pune, 21 January 2026: The live online display of municipal election results has attracted global attention, with citizens from 57 countries tracking. The initiative made PMC the only municipal corporation in Maharashtra to offer real-time online results for a local body election.
Vote counting for the Pune Municipal elections began at 10 am on January 16 and continued until around 1.30 am the next day. Unlike Assembly or Lok Sabha elections, where the Election Commission provides round-by-round online data, local body elections usually lack an official online results platform, forcing citizens to rely on media updates.
To solve this problem, PMC’s Information Technology Department set up a live results system at every counting centre. The platform showed how many of the 165 wards were under counting and refreshed figures every 10 minutes, ensuring quick and accurate updates for citizens.
The most closely watched contest was Ward No. 9 (Baner–Balewadi), where the result was declared last. Thousands of citizens continued following the updates past midnight as suspense around the outcome grew.
Within just one day, the results page received 41 lakh views, with around 7 lakh unique visitors. Apart from India, viewers logged in from countries including the US, Russia, Japan, Germany, Australia, Canada, Singapore, South Korea, New Zealand, and several others, taking the total to 57 nations.
Speaking about the initiative, Rahul Jagtap, Head of the IT Department, said that updating results every 10 minutes helped ensure transparency and public trust, leading to massive national and international engagement with the platform.
