Oppn corners BJP over water tax hike in PCMC

Pimpri: Opposition parties in Pimpri Chinchwad are trying to corner Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the proposal in the civic body to increase water tax. Corporators from opposition parties staged a protest against the proposed hike outside the PCMC House.

The ruling party had to adjourn the General Body meeting for 2-3 minutes after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Shiv Sena corporators became aggressive.

The proposed hike in water tax could not be discussed during the meeting, as it was adjourned immediately amidst aggressive protest. The General Body meeting will be held on February 28.

As the meeting began, Shiv Sena and MNS corporators shouted slogans against the ruling party. Corporators and local leaders from these parties were leading the agitation. Shiv Sena’s Sulbha Ubale appealed to corporators to join the agitation. Several corporators, including Leader of the Opposition Yogesh Behl, former mayor Mangala Kadam, Vaishali Ghodekar, corporator Vaishali Kalbhor, Anuradha Gophane, Sulkshana Dhar and others participated in the protest. Former corporator Maruti Bhapkar and former Shiv Sena corporator Dhananjay Alhat were leading the protest.

Many corporators, including Leader of opposition Yogesh Behl, had come with vessels to protest against the increase in water tax. They were demanding a complete rollback of the hike. Amidst the chaos, Mayor Nitin Kalje moved the adjournment motion, paying tribute to departed souls. Immediately after that, the national anthem was played. The discussion on the water tariff hike did not take place in the General Body.
