Parents arrested for murdering 13-days-old baby in Pune

Parents dug a pit inside the jungle and buried the child in order to destroy the evidence

Pune: Sinhagad Road police have arrested a father and mother on charges of murdering their 13 days old specially-abled baby by burying him in Pune.

The incident which came to light on Wednesday was spread like a wildfire in city. The arrested suspects have been identified as Kuwarsingh Subhash Thakur (34) and his wife (21), both residents of Jadhav Nagar in Wadgaon Budruk off Sinhagad Road. Police Sub Inspector Kishor Tanpure from Sinhagad Road police station has filed the FIR in this regard. The incident took place on Monday (October 12) night. A team of police personnel from the Sinhagad road police station has rushed to the spot.

According to police, Thakur and his wife had a love affair and had recently married. They were working as helpers in a private company. However, during the lockdown they both lost employment. Thakur’s wife was pregnant when the lockdown was announced. She delivered a baby in the Sassoon General Hospital in the first week of October. The new born baby was a special (Divyang) child.

Since both of them were unemployed Thakur and his wife were not willing to accept the child. They tried to hand over the child at an orphanage. But they were not allowed to do so. Thakur’s wife strangled the baby on Monday night and then they both took it near the water purification plant of Wadgaon. They dug a pit inside the jungle and buried the child in order to destroy the evidence.

When police received a tip off about this incident, they rushed to the spot. Since they had to exhume the body of the child and the earth in the jungle needed to be extracted, police officials contacted the Tehsildar officials. After obtaining required permissions, the police team exhumed the body of the child. During the investigations, the parents confessed to have killed the child. Assistant Police Inspector P B Kanase is probing the case further.
