PUNE: Rachana Jain and her techie husband have opted for work from home since their 8-year-old daughter is at home. “I am now busy planning activities for her. I take help of the many websites that give us options for craft activities, drawing, DIY projects and quilling,” said Jain, who lives in Wakad.
As children have been given holidays from their schools because of the fear of spreading of coronavirus (COVID-19), parents are trying to find innovative ways to keep the children stuck at home busy throughout the day.
“This time, they have been given holidays without any homework to keep them occupied. My husband is working from home to be with my two boys. I make my older one solve comprehension passages and learn mathematics tables. My younger one has been encouraged to do more colouring and writing,” said IT professional Shafaque Ansari from Hadapsar.
Jain also informed that some websites have learn-from-home activities for children. Online classrooms and activity classes are becoming quite popular among parents.
Several online learning platforms have introduced new programmes that the students can use while their schools remain closed. A couple of schools in Pune like Global Indian International School (GIIS) and Walnut School have also started virtual classrooms and online learning activities.
Oruga World Preschool/Daycare Founder Nilakshi Daliya said that while her daycare centre has been kept shut, she has designed activities for her son, as well as has sent them to help parents who use her centre keep their children engaged.
“On Sunday, I made my son do creative activities using earbuds. I have planned several more for the coming days. I send videos of these activities to the parents who are my clients,” Daliya said.
