PCMC corporator Palande protests Sholay-style for water

Pimpri: Taking a leaf out of the Bollywood movie Sholay, ruling BJP corporator Sujata Palande held a dharna like the character played by the actor Dharmendra in the movie, to protest against water shortage in her ward.

The corporator climbed the Nehru Nagar water tank demanding water supply and alighted only two-and-half hours later, after her demand was met.

Palande was forced to resort to the filmy stir after the Nehru Nagar ward started facing a shortage of water five days after Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) restored daily water supply in the city.

The corporator said the municipal ward was receiving water with less pressure since August 8 when the city’s water restrictions were lifted following discharge of excess water from the Pavana Dam.

Palande, who received several complaints from the people of her ward about shortage of water on Monday, climbed the water tank at Nehru Nagar.

She declared she would not climb down until regular water supply was restored.

After learning of the corporator’s stir, the municipal corporation’s Water Supply Department officials rushed to the water tank to persuade the corporator to call off the protest. Palande, however, refused to come down.

Palande blamed the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation administration for creating an ‘artificial’ water shortage in the city.
