Pimpri Chinchwad: COVID-19 cases cross 70,000 mark

Pimpri: One of the worst-hit districts across the nation, the Pune district is already an epicentre of the novel coronavirus. Along with Pune city, Pimpri-Chinchwad which is known as the industrial hub is witnessing a spike in the spread of COVID-19.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Saturday informed that 984 new COVID-19 cases were reported in 24 hours while 903 patients were recovered and discharged from the different hospitals of the city. On Saturday, 25 people lost their lives amid the COVID-19.

With this, the total cases has now crossed the mark of 70,000. Currently, 8,051 active cases are being reported in Pimpri Chinchwad. Of which, 6,800 are asymptomatic while 3,054 are reported as symptomatic. 143 patients are in serious condition here while 101 are on ventilator support.

Till Sunday morning, 10 people were tested positive while 953 were discharged. 1,46,515 have completed their isolation while 12,901 are still under home isolation.

Meanwhile, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) recently launched the ‘My family, my responsibility’ campaign to conduct health examination of residents at their doorsteps, in order to check the spread of coronavirus disease (Covid-19). The civic body has formed 1,500 teams for the mission.

The COVID-19 outbreak has been raging across the nation with over a million cases recorded in September itself, taking the nation’s total past 52 lakh. The death tally in India has also jumped subsequently and now nears 85,000 mark.
