PUNE: The city experienced a sunny day on Friday after cloudy and gloomy weather in the past week. The day was pleasant at normal day temperature with moderate drizzles and showers in a few pockets of the city.
According to the forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), in the coming few days, temperatures will be moderate, followed by one or two spells of rainfall and cloudy weather in and around the city.
IMD stated that last week, the vigorous monsoon conditions caused floods in some other states such as Karnataka, interior Maharashtra, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh. However, only Konkan and Goa will experience heavy rainfall in a few pockets till August 26.
As of Friday, the IMD officials stated that the Southwest Monsoon has been active over west Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. It has been subdued over Marathwada, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Kerala.

“For the country as a whole, cumulative rainfall of Southwest Monsoon season, i.e. between June 1 to August 22 has been 7 per cent below the Long Period Average (LPA).
“Overall rainfall received during the time in the country was 605 mm,” said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
As per the forecast across India, IMD predicted that till August 28, heavy to very heavy rain likely at isolated places in Gujarat region.
Also, heavy rain is likely at isolated places of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, Uttarakhand, east Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra and Kutch, Chhattisgarh, coastal Karnataka and Kerala during the same time. Also, according to the IMD, currently, El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) neutral conditions are prevailing over the equatorial Pacific Ocean and the latest Monsoon Mission Climate Forecast System (MMCFS) forecast indicates that there is a possibility of development of weak El Niño conditions in the last part of the monsoon season or thereafter.
