Pune, 24 June 2025: In a decisive action to enforce the plastic ban and improve sanitation, the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Sinhgad Road Ward Office carried out a special drive in the Dhayari area. The operation resulted in fines total ₹1.25 lakh and the seizure of 150 kilograms of banned plastic material.
The flying squad targeted plastic sellers, hotels, bakeries, eateries, and fruit and flower vendors found flouting the rules. Vendors selling banned plastic were fined ₹5,000 each, while those maintaining unhygienic surroundings faced fines of ₹1,500.
This drive is part of PMC Commissioner’s broader initiative to ensure cleanliness and strict implementation of the plastic ban across the city. For this purpose, dedicated flying squads with vehicles have been formed to conduct surprise checks and take swift action.
The Dhayari operation was led under the guidance of Assistant Municipal Commissioner Pragya Potdar. Senior Health Inspectors Ashish Supriar and Mangaldas Mane supervised the team, which included Health Inspector Shubham Dolas, Mukkadam Mahesh Londhe, and other PMC staff.
Apart from imposing penalties, the team also engaged with local vendors and residents, spreading awareness about hygiene and the importance of complying with the city’s cleanliness norms.
