Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has received a very poor response to the State’s scheme to regularise unauthorised constructions by paying a compound fee. The government had announced the scheme in January. The civic body was given a deadline of six months to regularise constructions by paying the fee.
Now, only one month is remaining before the closure of the scheme. The PMC has so far received 80 proposals and out of these only eight have been regularised till date.
The state Urban Development Department (UDD) had issued the rules to regularise illegal structures on payment of a penalty in October 2017. Illegal constructions, done before December 31, 2015, in residential, commercial and industrial zones will be regularised.
Yuvraj Deshmukh, the Superintendent Engineer of the building permission department, told Sakal Times, “We received 80 applications for the regularisation of the structures. Till date, we have sanctioned eight proposals. The scheme will remain in force till July 31, 2018. The State government may extend the deadline.”
A civic official said, “Due to a high compounding fee and complex conditions, people are not coming forward to regularise unauthorised constructions. Hence, PMC is getting a low response.”
In 2001, State government had passed Gunthewari Act to regularise illegal constructions and gave a time frame from 2001 to 2005 regularise such constructions.
