Pune, 26 June 2025: Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal has suggested that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) send a proposal to the state government seeking a reduction in penalties and interest charged on delayed property tax payments. Misal pointed out that these extra charges often inflate the original tax amount two to three times, discouraging citizens from making timely payments.
She emphasized that easing these financial burdens could help increase overall property tax collection and benefit residents, especially those in recently merged villages. “A citizen-friendly tax structure is essential to ensure fairness and encourage compliance,” Misal said during a review meeting at PMC on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Additional Commissioners Prithviraj B.P., Omprakash Divte, and other senior officials. Misal stated that the proposal should ensure residents of merged areas are not treated unfairly under the new tax regime.
Other key updates from the meeting:
₹80 crore granted by the Central Government to PMC for disaster management.
Work on STP plants under AMRUT 1 and 2 is ongoing; 10 plants planned in total.
A new water purification plant is being developed at Vadgaon Budruk.
4,500 houses to be built under the PM Awas Yojana; PMC considering use of government and MHADA lands due to space shortage.
200 electric buses to be added to PMPML fleet soon.
Instructions given to act against illegal hoardings and encroachments.
Two new metro stations to come up between Swargate and Katraj with funding from the Center, State, and PMC.
Action taken against Pramod Kondhare including filing of a case and removal from post.
Mahapreet Accountability Questioned:
Misal also faced questions about the transparency of projects under Mahapreet (Maharashtra Platform for Energy Efficiency and Environmental Technology), including LED street lighting and a 50 MW solar project. When asked whether a report on Mahapreet’s functioning would be presented, she responded, “Both social welfare and urban development departments are under me. We will consider your suggestion,” avoiding further comment.
