Pune, 4th July 2025: In a renewed effort to improve services and boost revenue, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has taken firm action against operational lapses, particularly during the afternoon hours.
PMPML Chairperson and Managing Director Deepa Mudhol Munde is personally monitoring the situation. Department heads, who earlier operated from the headquarters, have now been assigned as guardian officers to various depots to strengthen field-level supervision.
For the past several days, a number of PMPML buses, especially electric ones, have been going off the roads during the afternoon shift due to charging issues. This has led to frequent route cancellations, causing major inconvenience to commuters and financial losses to the corporation. Despite earlier attempts at counseling staff to reduce these incidents, the problem persisted, prompting stronger action.
Taking serious note of the continued negligence, PMPML has suspended around 25 employees, including drivers and mechanics, for failing to ensure smooth operations. In addition, some conductors were found collecting more than the actual ticket fare and have also faced disciplinary action. The administration has made it clear that inefficiency and misconduct will not be tolerated.
As part of its corrective measures, PMPML has appointed 17 senior department officials as guardians of 17 respective depots. These officials will regularly visit the depots during afternoon hours to monitor vehicle readiness, staff performance, and route execution. Their primary task is to ensure that services run without disruption and that any emerging issues are addressed on the spot.
Deepa Mudhol Munde reiterated that repeated failures of the same vehicle, especially if a bus breaks down more than twice, will lead to a formal investigation of the concerned driver and mechanic. Strict disciplinary action will follow if they are found guilty. The administration is determined to prevent further losses and ensure reliable public transport for the city.
