Pune: Transgenders harassing motorists at traffic signals face action

Pune Police have taken action against13 members of the transgender community for harassing commuters on the signals across various parts of the city.

Pune: The transgender community in the country commonly called as the hijra, is considered sacred for various reason. Their blessings are considered as auspicious and they are invited to bless newlyweds and also the newborn too. They make a living out of blessing people and demand for cash.

The community demanding for cash on the sginals is the common scenario in India. But at some places some of the members of this community are also seen harassing people.

Now Pune Police have taken action against 13 members of the transgender community for harassing commuters on the signals across various parts of the city. 13 people in different parts of the city faced action under the Prevention of Begging Act. The action was taken by the police after many people complained the harassment acts.

Senior Police Inspector Anagha Deshpande of Social Security Cell (SSC) under the guidance of DCP (Crime) Bachchan Singh took the action.

The police took the action at multiple areas such as Kothrud, Yerawada, Hadapsar, Bundgarden area and Sarasbaug. The police took the action against 13 people under Section 4 (1) of the Maharashtra Begging Prevention Act.
