Pune: MSEDCL (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited) has now started taking metre readings, accurate power consumption and have also adjusted electricity bills for the months during the lockdown. There was too much confusion as a number of people lodged the complaint of overrated electricity bill. It generated chaos as the Energy Minister Nitin Raut urged people to stay calm and their problems will be resolved.
Till Tuesday as many as 14.30 lakh electricity consumers in Pune paid electricity bills worth Rs 356. 45 crore.
Meter readings from MSEDCL were temporarily suspended during the coronavirus lockdown. Thus, customers were given average electricity bills for the months of April and May. The bills generated were based on the average for the month of April and May, including few days of March.
People were in confusion of the invoice thus in order to remove this confusion, MSEDCL had started resolving the issue through help desks, webinars, gatherings, WhatsApp groups, camps and other methods in each of its offices.
Apart from this, experts in the field also made it clear that the levy of electricity bills is in accordance with the rules and regulations. As a result, payment of electricity bills by consumers has started expeditiously.
In the last one month, Pune city managed to collect the bill amount Rs 207.72 while Pimpri-Chinchwad area collected Rs 100.11 crore from over three lakh customers while 2.6 lakh customers from Mulshi, Velhe, Ambegaon, Junnar, Khed and Maval talukas managed to pay Rs 48.62 crore electricity bills.
