Pune: As many as 50 vehicles were vandalised by miscreants Pune’s Market Yard area on Thursday. A group of young boys, along with blunt weapons and iron rods, went on the rage in the slum pockets of Market Yard area.

It destroyed 50 vehicles, assaulting few locals and robbing cash from nearby shops. The incident took place between intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. According to the police, a maximum number of vandalised vehicles were three- and four-wheeler along with tempos and two-wheelers.

As soon as the incident took place, senior police officials rushed to the spot to take the review of the situation. Kalim Babu Sheikh (47) had complained to Market Yard Police station. According to the complainant, the gang looted some cash from the nearby shop. In a combing operation by the Pune police, four people within 24 hours were arrested for allegedly vandalising vehicles in the area. Market Yard police arrested four miscreants in the case. The accused who all are in their 20s are identified as Kiran Thorat (25), Somnath Shinde (21), Sachin Mane (22) and Saurabh Andamane (25).

The youth are booked under 395 (punishment for dacoity), 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 307 (attempt to murder), 427 (Mischief causing damage) of the IPC (Indian Penal Code).

Pune and its nearby areas have reported several cases of vehicle vandalism and torching in the recent past. While most have been consequences of opposition between local groups of miscreants, some have been because of personal arguments.
