Pune: The Pune city Police who are on toes marching to fight the spread of coronavirus pandemic now are falling prey to the trap of this infection.
With number of police personnel have already infected with the virus now a senior Assistant Police Commissioner (ACP) attached to Pune city police has been rushed to hospital after his report test positive for COVID-19.
On Saturday, an Assistant Commissioner of Police report turned positive based on which the officer and the staff who came into contact while rendering the duty are asked for home quarantine.
Since March 6 till date around 54 police personnel attached to Pune city police are been affected by this pandemic of which 30 personnel have recovered while two died undergoing treatment.
At present most of the affected coronavirus patients in the Pune city police jurisdiction were constables, Hawaldar, Senior inspector and sub-inspector at the police station level and the risk of spreading the infection was high amongst these but now the COVID-19 has reached the assistant commissioner which are under the radar of top brass officers. This has raised a matter of concern for the police department too.
Recently, Home Minister of the State Anil Deshmukh has asked the police personnel above the age of 55 should stay home.
On Monday after the Bombay, High court staffer tested positive for COVID-19 in Mumbai as a precautionary measure the three prominent justices naming Justice Sadhana Jadhav, Justice Revati Mohite-Dhere and Justice GS Kulkarni are now home quarantine.
