Most of the required procedures have been completed, with only the final approval from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) remaining. Once the clearance is received, the expanded terminal will be opened for passengers.

The upgraded facility covers around 4,075 square metres and includes check-in, pre-embarkation security check (PESC) and security hold area (SHA) facilities.

  • Four XBIS machines and eight DFMDs in the PESC area

  • Two boarding gates — 6A and 6B

The renovated terminal has also been designed to improve passenger convenience. It includes space for retail and food and beverage outlets, along with additional seating equipped with power sockets.

A dedicated baby-care room has also been created, featuring a diaper-changing station, washroom and hot-and-cold water facilities. Digi Yatra facilities have been added to the pre-SHA area and boarding gates, subject to final BCAS approval.

Mohol said the steady increase in passenger numbers has made it important to improve facilities while reducing congestion during busy periods.

He said the renovation and better utilisation of the old terminal have been completed, with the remaining BCAS approval expected to clear the way for the facility to reopen soon.

The expanded terminal is expected to increase Pune airport’s passenger-handling capacity by around 405 passengers per hour.

The additional capacity is expected to improve passenger movement and reduce queues, particularly at check-in and security checkpoints during peak hours.
