Pune, 18 June 2025: Traffic jams near Pune Airport may soon reduce as authorities plan to install AI-powered CCTV cameras on New Airport Road and VIP Road (Symbiosis College Road). This new system will catch vehicles parked illegally and issue automatic fines. The project is being carried out by Pune Airport officials, Pune Traffic Police, and AeroMall management.
A feasibility study is underway to check how the cameras can be installed and operated. Officials have already held talks with vendors and studied similar systems working on FC Road. After the study is completed, the cameras will be put in place.
The plan includes installing 3 to 4 smart cameras on these busy roads. These cameras will use AI technology to detect vehicles parked wrongly, record their number plates, and send online fines. Drivers will get a one-minute chance to move their vehicles before being fined.
Illegal parking has caused huge traffic problems, especially in the evenings and during the rainy season. Many people park cabs and private cars on the roadside instead of using the paid parking at AeroMall or VIP Road. This leads to long delays for travellers going to the airport.
Authorities and AeroMall managers hope to finish installing the cameras by the end of August. They believe that the new AI system will bring back smooth traffic flow, improve access to the airport, and ensure that people follow parking rules properly.
