Pune, 18th June 2026: The news division of Pune Akashvani will continue to function and its scheduled news bulletins will remain on air, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw has clarified.

The assurance comes amid concerns that the division could be shut down following the retirement of key officials.

The issue was raised by the Pune Shramik Patrakar Sangh, which had urged Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol to intervene and prevent the closure of the historic news unit. The journalists' body highlighted the division’s contribution to journalism, its legacy, and its strong connection with listeners across Maharashtra.

Acting on the representation, Mohol met Ashwini Vaishnaw and conveyed the concerns of journalists and listeners. Following the discussion, Vaishnaw said, "The Pune Akashvani news division will not be closed, and its news bulletins will continue to be broadcast as scheduled".

Speaking about the importance of the station, Mohol said, "Pune Akashvani has a proud history and continues to serve millions of listeners across Maharashtra who rely on its news bulletins. We conveyed the sentiments of journalists and listeners to the Union Minister, who responded positively and assured us that the news service will remain operational".
