Pune: Bharosa Cell, building trust between cops, people completes two years

Pune: Pune Police’s Bharosa Cell, a special cell built specially for providing assistance to children, elderly and women of Pune Police completed two years. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Bachchan Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) SM Borate were present at the event which marked the second anniversary of the cell on Saturday.

The cell formed on January 9, 2019 covers a helpline for children, elderly, women. It also offers medical assistance to the aforementioned groups. It also caters rehabilitation of children, residential help for women undergoing counselling, legal aid regarding domestic violence to name a few.

THE DAMINI SQUAD

The Damini Squad under Bharosa Cell has women cops, called as ‘Damini Marshals’. The Marshals keep a watch on crowded spots, schools, colleges and take action against any troublemakers who cause distress to women in public places.

The women help division got as many as 2,073 applications last year. As many as 807 applications were addressed and 800 are under process. The 1091 helpline number launched for women also received 940 calls in 2020.

On the other side, the senior citizen’s cell received 362 applications last year. As many as 330 were addressed and 32 are under process. Further, the 1090 helpline number for senior citizens received 2,693 calls in 2020.
