PMC approves five new tenders for biomining 28 lakh tonnes of waste at Fursungi–Uruli Devachi.
All contractors to work at the same lowest rate under strict monitoring.
Project worth ₹154 crore funded under the 15th Finance Commission.
Pune, 29 October 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved five new tenders for biomining of 28 lakh tonnes of waste accumulated at the Fursungi–Uruli Devachi garbage depot. Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has directed that all contractors will work at the same lowest quoted rate to avoid financial losses for the civic body.
According to civic officials, nearly 59 lakh metric tonnes of waste had piled up at the depot over the years. Out of this, around 21 lakh tonnes were already processed by 2023. Another 10 lakh tonnes were taken up in August 2024, and that phase is now almost complete. The new tenders will focus on clearing the remaining 28 lakh tonnes of waste.
For this work, PMC has received ₹154 crore through the 15th Finance Commission, calculated at ₹550 per tonne. The tender process has been designed as per the guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). This time, the civic body has removed the condition requiring prior experience in Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) disposal, making it easier for more financially strong companies to participate.
Commissioner Ram explained that the earlier tenders had quoted very high rates, which delayed progress. Now, the expectation is that the new bids will come in at less than ₹700 per tonne. This, he said, will ensure better value for money and faster implementation of the biomining work.
He added that the PMC will closely monitor the technology used by contractors, the method of RDF disposal, and the daily progress of the biomining activity. The civic administration aims to ensure the entire process remains transparent, efficient, and environmentally responsible.
