Pune, 7th August 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to take stricter action against a builder after mud from a construction site once again spread across Raja Bahadur Mill Road, causing several two-wheelers to skid. The latest incident comes just days after the civic body served a notice to the developer over the same issue.
The affected stretch between the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and Naidu Hospital turned slippery on Wednesday as trucks and dumpers transporting construction material carried mud onto the road. Several riders lost control of their vehicles and fell. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.
This is the second such incident within three days. On Tuesday, the same stretch witnessed multiple accidents after a thick layer of mud accumulated on the road, leaving several commuters injured. As the Fire Brigade station is located nearby, firefighters rushed to the spot, washed away the mud using water jets, and restored safer road conditions. They were once again forced to carry out the same exercise on Wednesday.
Following Tuesday's accidents, PMC had served a notice to the builder, directing the developer to explain the lapse within seven days and immediately ensure that mud from construction vehicles did not spill onto the public road.
However, the civic body's warning had little impact, as the problem recurred within two days, raising concerns over compliance with safety norms at the construction site.
City Engineer Aniruddha Pavaskar said the repeated violation would invite stronger action from the civic body.
"If such incidents continue even after the builder has been served a notice, they will not be tolerated. We will issue another notice and impose a penalty on the developer," Pavaskar said.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Pavneet Kaur also expressed displeasure over the repeated negligence and directed officials to act firmly instead of issuing repeated warnings.
"If our engineers are unable to ensure compliance and such incidents continue even after notices are issued, the concerned construction work should be stopped. Repeated violations cannot be allowed," Kaur said while instructing officials from the Building Permission Department to take strict action.
Residents and commuters have raised concerns over recurring safety hazards on Raja Bahadur Mill Road, where heavy construction activity continues. The repeated accumulation of mud has made the road dangerously slippery, particularly for two-wheeler riders.
With the monsoon intensifying, commuters have demanded stricter enforcement against developers who fail to maintain basic safety standards and keep public roads free of construction debris.
