Speaking on the sidelines of a corporate social responsibility event organised by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) in Pune, Mohol said the ministry has begun reviewing the issue after receiving several complaints from passengers about unusually high ticket prices.

“We are currently collecting information on this issue. A special section within the ministry is studying the matter. What is happening is not right and it will be corrected,” Mohol said.

Passengers attempting to return to India from countries in West Asia have raised concerns over steep airfares after airlines such as IndiGo, Air India and SpiceJet began operating special repatriation flights. Many travellers claim ticket prices have increased sharply due to high demand.

The minister said the government will examine the matter carefully before deciding on any regulatory action to control fares.

Mohol also indicated that the ministry would review Air India’s recent announcement to impose a ₹399 fuel surcharge on domestic flights. According to him, the government will follow a similar approach by analysing the situation before taking any decision.

He recalled that the ministry had earlier intervened to control airfares during emergencies, including when passengers were trying to leave Kashmir following the Pahalgam terror attack last year, ensuring ticket prices remained within reasonable limits.
