Pune, 3rd February 2026: The investigation into the aircraft crash that led to the death of former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on January 28 has been transferred to the Crime Investigation Department (CID).

The move follows standard administrative and judicial practice in cases involving the sudden death or accident of high-ranking public figures.

Officials said such sensitive cases are routinely handed over to the CID to ensure an independent and comprehensive inquiry. With the case now formally assigned, the CID will take charge of all further investigation related to the incident.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is also preparing its technical report on the crash. Based on preliminary inputs from DGCA and local investigating agencies, initial findings are likely to be available soon, which may help determine the cause of the accident and the next course of action.
