Pune, 11 July 2025: In a deeply disturbing incident from Kedgaon in Daund taluka of Pune district, an 11-month-old child named Avdhut Mengawade lost his life during a violent argument between his uncle and aunt. The shocking event has left the local community in grief and disbelief over the senseless loss of an innocent life.
According to police reports, the quarrel broke out between Nitin Ajinath Mengawade and his wife Pallavi over a petty issue. In a fit of rage, Pallavi allegedly picked up a trident (trishul) to strike her husband. Tragically, the weapon missed Nitin and instead pierced the head of their infant nephew, who was being held by a nearby family member. The child, Avdhut, died on the spot due to the severe injury.
The critically injured child was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival. The incident quickly drew attention from law enforcement, with Yavat Police Station registering a case of culpable homicide against both Pallavi and her husband Nitin. They were subsequently taken into custody for further investigation.
Yavat Police Inspector Narayan Deshmukh personally visited the scene and initiated a detailed probe into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.
While the current information points to an accident during a domestic quarrel, police have expressed suspicion of a possible superstitious angle to the case. Investigators have noted attempts to clean the bloodstained trident and erase blood marks at the scene, indicating possible efforts to destroy evidence.
The shocking death of an innocent child, caught in the crossfire of adult conflict, has sparked widespread sorrow in the locality. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full truth behind this heartbreaking event.
