Pune, 14th August 2026: Crime Branch’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit raided a premises in Budhwar Peth after receiving information that women were allegedly being forced into prostitution.
Acting on the tip-off, the police conducted the operation at Sapna Building, where they suspected illegal activities were taking place.
According to police, confidential information indicated that Bangladeshi women were being made to engage in prostitution at the location. To verify the tip, officers set up a trap using a decoy customer before proceeding with the raid.
During the operation, the police rescued two Bangladeshi women from the premises. After the rescue, the women were handed over to the appropriate authorities for further care and legal procedures as part of the ongoing investigation.
Following the raid, the Crime Branch arrested two individuals in connection with the case. The arrested persons have been identified as 39-year-old Shuli Begum Afzal Sheikh, also known as Preeti Ranjit Patra, and 42-year-old Ranjit Gadadhar Patra. Police confirmed that Shuli Begum is a Bangladeshi national.
Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing to determine how the women were brought to Pune and to identify whether more individuals are involved in the alleged trafficking and prostitution network.
