Pune: The December 4 scheduled visit of more than 100 Delhi-based foreign envoys to the Serum Institute of India (SII) at Hadapsar and Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Limited at Hinjawadi has been cancelled. District Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh confirmed the development saying that his office has received a letter regarding the same.

The Delhi-based foreign envoys had earlier planned to visit the two companies on Friday (November 27). However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Serum Institute was confirmed for Saturday (November 28) and hence the foreign envoys' visit was postponed to December 4. Now this rescheduled visit has also been cancelled.

Serum Institute has partnered with Oxford University and AstraZeneca company to produce the COVISHIELD vaccine which has been proven safe to immunise senior citizens from the coronavirus infection.

The letter received by the District Collector office states that although the December 4 visit to the Serum Institute has been cancelled, they will be notified later about their visit in the near future.
