Pune: Doctor, wife robbed at gunpoint in Katraj Ghat

A doctor and his wife were robbed at a gun-point by two unidentified men on a bike in the wee hours of Sunday in Katraj.

The couple was travelling in a car along the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway after midnight on Sunday. The incident came to light, after 32-year-old Dr Chinmay Vitthal Deshmukh a resident of Rajashree Shahu Society in Bibwewadi lodged a complaint with Bharti Vidyapeeth police station which falls under the jurisdiction of Pune city police commissionerate.

Talking to Sakal Times Police Sub-Inspector Mahendra Patil said, “Chinmay and his wife had gone to have dinner in Khed-Shivapur based restaurant in their car on Sunday. Around 12.30 am the duo were returning to the home. The couple had stopped near the tunnel on the road connecting Satara and Pune. The doctor stopped his vehicle to relieve himself. Two accused on a bike came near their car and blocked their path near Katraj new tunnel. They held a gun to the stomach of the doctor’s wife and demanded valuables. They forcefully took two gold rings and an expensive watch worth Rs 1.20 lakh from them. the couple.”

 The police are on a search for two people who fled on the motorbike.
