In a shocking incident on Tuesday, a drunk driver in Pune's Warje area rammed into multiple vehicles and later attempted to kidnap a traffic police officer who had intervened. The driver has been taken into custody, and a case has been registered against him.
According to a complaint filed by traffic constable Amol Pisal at Warje Malwadi Police Station, Senior Police Inspector Raghavendra Kshirsagar of Uttam Nagar Police Station was traveling through Warje for court-related work when a speeding passenger car on the Warje–NDA road collided with five to six vehicles on its way toward Shivane.
Recognizing the danger, Kshirsagar and his team pursued the vehicle. Near Warje Chowk, the intoxicated driver crashed into a tempo vehicle. Kshirsagar successfully brought the car to a stop.
Later, two traffic police officers from the Warje Malwadi Traffic Branch boarded the vehicle to escort it to the local police chowki. The driver, however, attempted to divert the car along a different route, instead of complying with the police instructions. Kshirsagar noticed the maneuver and intervened to stop the car again.
The police subdued and arrested the driver, and preliminary investigation confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Authorities have urged motorists to remain vigilant and report reckless driving, especially incidents involving intoxicated drivers, to ensure public safety.
