Pune, 29th June 2026: June is set to end with a significant rainfall deficit, as Pune district has received 57% less rain than normal during the month. However, weather conditions are expected to change from July 1, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting the arrival of widespread monsoon-style rainfall across the city and district.
According to the IMD forecast, Pune is likely to experience continuous cloudy weather and frequent spells of rain from July 1 to July 7, with very little sunshine during the week. The expected rainfall is likely to bring an end to the prolonged dry spell that has delayed the monsoon's impact over the city.
Signs of the strengthening monsoon are already visible in the Western Ghats, where several locations recorded heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours. Bhira received 407 mm of rain, followed by Lonavala with 160 mm, Dongerwadi with 158 mm, and Tamhini with 125 mm, according to IMD data.
For Monday, the IMD has predicted one or two short spells of rain in Pune city under generally cloudy skies. The maximum temperature is expected to remain below 28 degrees Celsius due to increased cloud cover.
With June passing almost without meaningful rainfall, water storage in the dams supplying Pune remains considerably lower than last year. Residents have been eagerly waiting for the monsoon to regain strength, hoping the IMD's forecast proves accurate and brings sustained rainfall in the coming days.
