Pune, 31 December 2025: Pune is ending the year with an unusually cold spell, though a slight increase in temperature was recorded on December 31. The Shivajinagar weather station reported a minimum temperature of 10.8°C, marginally higher than the 9.9°C recorded on December 30, offering mild relief after several days of biting cold.
Despite this small rise, the year-end temperature remained significantly lower than last year. On December 31, 2024, Pune had recorded a minimum of 15.4°C, underlining how rare and intense this December’s cold conditions have been. Most days this month saw minimum temperatures dipping into single digits, making it one of the coldest Decembers in recent years.
According to the India Meteorological Department, Pune’s minimum temperature is expected to stay around 10°C on January 1 and may rise slightly to 11°C by January 2. Daytime temperatures have also remained lower than usual throughout the last week of December.
Last year, maximum temperatures between December 28 and 31 had crossed 31°C, but this year they mostly stayed below 30°C. On Tuesday, Shivajinagar recorded a maximum of 29°C, Pashan 28°C, while Koregaon Park touched 30°C. The IMD has forecast only gradual changes, with daytime highs likely to reach around 31°C by January 4.
Clear skies, morning haze, and strong north winds are intensifying the cold, as heat escapes quickly during the night. The wider cold wave across North India has also impacted air travel.
Dense fog reduced runway visibility at Pune airport, forcing the cancellation of flights to Delhi, Amritsar, and Lucknow, causing inconvenience to passengers at the year’s end.
