Pune: The education department has given relief to Class 9 and Class 11 students who had failed in the internal assessment grade system, which was implemented in absence of the final year examinations in view of COVID-19 pandemic crisis. The education department has asked schools and junior colleges to conduct oral examinations of these students through video conferencing or by calling these students at the institute on or before August 7.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the state government had decided that final year examinations of students from Class 1 to 9 should be cancelled. Students from these classes should be promoted to the next grade based on the average marks of their internal assessment. However, despite this concession, several students had failed due to low marks in internal assessment of the schools. About 200 students from Garware College had failed to get admission to Class 12. Other institutes also had a large number of such students. Parents of these students had requested the state education department to look into this matter.
In order to avoid the educational year loss of these students, the education department has revised its order. Now schools and junior colleges can allow these students, who had failed in the internal assessment system, to re-appear for an oral examination.
The education department has taken this decision based on a government resolution of April 2017. Class 9 students who had failed in their regular examination conducted in 2017-18 were offered a second chance to appear as a repeater in re-examination that was conducted in June 2018. This decision was based on the same principle in which Class 10 students are allowed to appear for the repeater batch.
Now, this year because of the COVID-19 situation, it won't be possible to re-conduct examinations for these students. So, the education department has asked schools and junior colleges to conduct oral examinations of such students on or before August 7, either through video conferencing or by calling these students at the institute.
