Pune, 17th September 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted a special inspection drive across Pune division during the ganeshotsav to check food adulteration and violations of labelling rules. Between September 10 and 15, officials raided 12 establishments and seized suspected food products worth ₹56.36 lakh.
The FDA also took action at 14 locations against the storage of prohibited food products, seizing stock worth around ₹20.26 lakh. Cases have been registered against those found responsible.
The inspections covered Pune, Kolhapur, Satara and Sangli districts. In Pune, officials seized food products from several establishments over suspected adulteration, defective labelling and misleading information.
At Adarsh Enterprises in Kondhwa, officials seized stocks of fat spread and margarine. At Jawaharlal Bothra and Brothers in the Gultekdi Market Yard, chemical-free jaggery and gold jaggery were seized for suspected violations.
A large stock of pasteurised cooking butter was also seized from Deacon Cold Storage India Pvt. Ltd. in Kelwade.
The FDA seized 74 kg of khoya from Amar Sweets in Hadapsar and 31 kg of burfi from Chaitanya Sweet in Bopkhel over suspected adulteration. The seized products were subsequently destroyed.
Similar action was taken in Satara and Sangli against food products including khoya, malai modak, kesar modak, puran poli and boondi.
Demand for khoya, mawa, sweets, dairy products and other food items rises sharply during the festive season. The FDA has advised consumers to check product labels, manufacturing dates and other details before buying food items.
Consumers can also report complaints related to food quality or hygiene through the FDA's toll-free helpline. The department said inspections and enforcement action will continue during the festive season.
