Pune, 29th July 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has intensified its enforcement drive in Pune by conducting raids on food businesses in Ganesh Peth, Bhawani Peth and Nana Peth.

During the inspections, officials seized sweets, candies, chocolates, dry fruits and savoury products worth more than ₹55 lakh over suspected violations of food safety and labelling regulations.

At Vardhman Enterprises in Ganesh Peth, FDA officials confiscated food products worth ₹17.82 lakh, including Annamalai sweets, Imli Jelly and Lovely Candy. The products were seized on suspicion of being unsafe and for alleged violations of food labelling norms.

Another inspection at New Pandian Enterprises led to the seizure of Sonpapdi, Chikki and Rasmalai Barfi valued at around ₹58,620, which were also suspected to be unsafe for consumption.

The biggest seizure was made at a warehouse near Guru Nanak High School in Bhawani Peth. Officials found nearly 14,325 kilograms of Centre Filled Candy and Chocolate Wafer Rolls stored without the mandatory food business registration or licence.

The stock, valued at ₹36.39 lakh, was seized for violating food safety regulations.

The FDA also inspected businesses in Nana Peth. At Vijay Lakshmi Traders, officials seized a stock of Rice Zero Number Sev and farsan, while Goyal Sales Corporation was found storing cashew nuts, almonds, raisins and mutton masala worth around ₹67,185, which were also confiscated during the drive.

Officials have collected samples from all the seized food items and sent them to a laboratory for analysis. Further legal action will be taken after the test reports are received.

FDA Joint Commissioner Digambar Bhogawade appealed to consumers to carefully check product labels, manufacturing and expiry dates before purchasing packaged food items to ensure their safety.
