Pune: Four arrested on charges of duping man on pretext of doubling money

Pune: The local crime branch of the Pune Rural Police has arrested a gang of four persons from Nagar district for cheating a Narayangaon resident by luring him into doubling his money by handing him over counterfeit currency notes.

The four arrested suspects have been identified as Pramod Bhagwan Salve, Babasaheb Bapu Date, Samir Dashrath Wagh, all three residents of Parner tehsil of Nagar district and Amol Bansi Bhosale, a resident of Bhoslewadi-Temdara in Junnar tehsil. All the four suspects have been booked at Narayangaon, Junnar and Khed police stations in connection with cases like murder, robbery and theft.

Padmakar Ghanwat, Head of Local Crime Branch of Pune Rural police, Babasaheb Date had been making frequent phone calls to Balu Karbhari Pawar in Narayangaon area for the last fortnight. Balu Pawar had initially ignored the phone calls. However, on Tuesday morning, Balu Pawar told Date that he was ready to get the currency notes doubled.

On this, Date called Balu Pawar near Samarth Vada Pav Center at 14 number chowk in Narayangaon around 2 pm. As soon as Balu Pawar reached the chowk, the four men on a motorcycle handed over a bundle of Rs 500 notes to Balu Pawar in exchange for Rs 25,000. Meanwhile, as soon as all the above four were gone, Pawar checked the bundle of notes and found that only two notes in the bundle of notes were genuine and the remaining 98 notes were fake. Pawar immediately went to Narayangaon police and lodged a complaint of fraud.

Upon receiving the information, Assistant Inspector of Police Ravindra Manjre, Sub-Inspector of Police Dattatraya Jagtap, Constables Shankar Jam, Sharad Bamble, Rauf Inamdar, Chandrakant Jadhav, Deepak Sable, Kashinath Rajapure, BY Londhe, YD Gargote had started searching for all the four suspects. After six hours of relentless efforts, the local crime branch succeeded in nabbing the accused from Narayangaon late last night.

Meanwhile, all the four arrested by the local crime branch are criminals-on-police-record. Amol Bhosale, one of the four suspects, has been booked for molesting a minor girl at the Ale Phata police station and was absconding. Narayangaon, Junnar and Khed police stations have registered several cases of body offences against Amol Bhosale and four others.
