Pune Ganeshotsav: PMC to increase mobile artificial tanks for immersion

In order to make Ganesh idols immersion more convenient for the people, the number of mobile tanks will be increased and the location of the ponds will also be made known to the people of Pune through the field offices, informed Pune City Mayor Murlidhar Mohol.

A number of people opted for an eco-friendly way of immersing the idols at homes as the administration had appealed to residents to immerse idols at home or at the immersion centres, mobile artificial tanks started around the city to avoid the crowd.

Mayor Mohol had organised a meeting to review the preparations for the immersion of Ganesh idols. The meeting was attended by Standing Committee President Hemant Rasne, Congress group leader Aba Bagul, MNS group leader Vasant More, PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar and various department heads and officials. 90 per cent of the immersion of the one and a half-day old Ganesh idols were done at home.

Mayor Mohol said, “Punekars, who are aware of the pandemic situation in the city has decided to immerse the Ganesh idols at home. About 90 per cent of the idols were immersed in the house recently. We appeal to continue the same in upcoming days in the backdrop of the spread of the virus.”

Last year, 13,585 idols on one and a half days, 25,896 on the fifth day, 29,997 on the seventh day and 3 lakh 55,154 on the last day were immersed in artificial tanks.  Planning for the immersion on fifth, seventh and last day was also discussed at the meeting, Mayor Mohol added.
