Pune, 1st September 2026: A case has been registered against Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena president Amit Thackeray and 20–25 others for allegedly creating a disturbance at Government Polytechnic College on Ganeshkhind Road in Pune on Monday afternoon.
According to the complaint filed by college principal Dr Rajendra Kashiram Patil, the group entered the college office without permission between 12.30 pm and 1 pm. The accused allegedly removed a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the office and threatened the principal and other staff members.
Police said the group also remained inside the office without a valid reason and raised slogans, leading to a disturbance on the premises.
Thackeray was in Pune and visited the college canteen for an inspection. During the visit, he noticed a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi displayed next to a photograph of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in a government office.
Thackeray reportedly asked a party worker to remove the photograph of Modi. The worker then removed it from the office.
The incident later led to a political dispute, with BJP workers demanding that a case be registered against Thackeray and others.
Based on the principal's complaint, police registered a case against Thackeray and the other accused over the alleged unauthorised entry, removal of the photograph, threats to staff and disturbance inside the college office.
