Pune, 18 November 2025: A fatal accident near Life Republic in the Hinjawadi IT Park area on Monday claimed the life of 22-year-old Tanvi Siddheshwar Sakharre, bringing renewed attention to the growing threat posed by uncontrolled heavy-vehicle movement in Pune’s busiest tech corridor.
Tanvi was riding her two-wheeler with her father as a pillion when a speeding dumper approached from behind and rammed into their bike. The violent impact threw both of them onto the road. Tanvi came directly under the dumper’s front wheel and died instantly. Her father survived the fall but was left severely traumatised.
The dumper driver fled instead of stopping to help. Locals immediately informed the police, after which the Hinjawadi Police launched a search using CCTV footage. After several hours of tracking, the accused driver, Ajay Dhakne, was arrested later in the evening.
The tragic accident has sparked intense anger among residents, who say Hinjawadi has become increasingly unsafe due to the rising number of RMC trucks, dumpers, and other heavy vehicles that speed through crowded stretches, especially during office hours. They allege that traffic rules are routinely ignored and police presence remains inadequate.
Residents also point out that seven women have died in similar accidents involving dumpers and RMC vehicles in the last 11 months. Despite repeated complaints to authorities, effective long-term measures have not been implemented.
While the police acted swiftly after Monday’s incident, the larger concern remains unresolved. Tanvi Sakharre’s death has once again exposed the gaps in traffic regulation in Hinjawadi, with citizens demanding strict control over heavy-vehicle movement and immediate action to make these routes safer.
