Pune, 7th July 2025: India’s first Dolby Cinema has officially opened its doors at City Pride in Kharadi, Pune, offering moviegoers one of the most advanced and immersive audio-visual experiences in the world.
This state-of-the-art cinema has been specially designed to meet Dolby’s international standards. The auditorium is entirely blacked out to enhance contrast, and all speakers are hidden from view, ensuring a distraction-free environment. A massive curved screen spans wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling, delivering a panoramic visual experience. The theatre has a seating capacity of 310.
The team behind City Pride decided to bring this international technology to India after experiencing it in Dubai. Recognizing the growing competition from OTT platforms, they felt it was important to offer something unique and compelling to draw audiences back into theatres.
The cinema will now screen movies produced with Dolby Cinema technology, which includes a large portion of Hollywood releases and an increasing number of Indian films. Due to the premium experience and technology, ticket prices at this cinema will be slightly higher than regular theatres.
What is Dolby Cinema?
Dolby Cinema combines two of Dolby’s most advanced technologies, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, to create a highly immersive movie-watching experience.
Dolby Vision delivers stunning visuals with brighter highlights, deeper darks, and a wider colour gamut. Meanwhile, Dolby Atmos enables 3D surround sound with speakers positioned in all directions, so sound moves around the audience according to the action on screen. Together, these technologies create the sensation of being inside the movie, presenting the director’s vision exactly as intended.
