Pune: Indian Bison spotted in the residential area of Kothrud

Citizens who had gone for an early morning walk in the area were scared due to the wild animal running amok.

Pune: An Indian Bison (Gaur) was spotted at the Mahatma Society area in Kothrud on Wednesday morning. Citizens who had gone for an early morning walk in the area were scared due to the wild animal running amok.

The Indian Bison was spotted at lane number 1 of Mahatma Society on Wednesday early morning. Initially morning walkers thought it was a cow or buffalo but when they realised that it was an Indian Bison, panic set in.

The news spread like a wildfire in the area. Several citizens stepped out to see the animal. The Indian Bison jumped a compound wall of 10 feet in height and entered an open space. The animal has got injured after it started hitting the wall.

Meanwhile, some citizens informed the forest department and Pune Municipal Corporation officials. Local police station officials were also informed.

Police Inspector Sunil Tambe of Kothrud Police Station said, "In Indian Bison has been spotted at lane number 1 of Mahatma Society in Kothrud. Efforts to catch the animal are going on."

Mahesh Gole, President of Mahatma Society said, "This is the first time that such incident has happened in our society. Peacocks were spotted regularly in the society areas but bison has been spotted for the first time."
