Pune, 28th September 2026: A 23-year-old IT engineer allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Vrindavan Society, Wadachi Wadi, Hadapsar, on Thursday night (September 24), following alleged dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws. The deceased, identified as Vaishnavi Omkar Gisare, had married just four months ago.
According to the complaint filed by her father, Pravin Jarande (51), at Kalepadal Police Station, Vaishnavi was allegedly harassed for ₹5 lakh to purchase a four-wheeler. Her family claimed to have spent approximately ₹45 lakh on her wedding and given 10 tolas of gold.
Vaishnavi married Omkar Sanjay Gisare (28) on May 9, 2026. After the wedding, she initially lived with her husband and in-laws before moving to Bengaluru for work. She returned to Pune towards the end of June and continued working from home.
Her father alleged that her husband, Omkar, father-in-law Sanjay Mahadev Gisare (49) and mother-in-law Rupali Sanjay Gisare (42) subjected her to repeated mental and physical harassment over the alleged demand for money.
According to her family, Vaishnavi spoke to her mother over the phone on September 24 and reportedly discussed the harassment she was facing at her marital home. Later that night, at around 11:30 pm, her husband also contacted her family.
When her parents were unable to reach Vaishnavi, they travelled to Pune, where the incident came to light.
Based on her father's complaint, Kalepadal Police have registered a case against her husband and in-laws under the Dowry Prohibition Act and for alleged abetment to suicide.
Police Sub-Inspector Sandeep Raut is investigating the case.
