Pune: IT professionals from Baner arrested for demanding Rs 30 lakh from businessman

Pune: Two persons, who allegedly demanded Rs 30 lakh from a businessman after stating they have won 30,000 points using his account of an online betting app, were arrested by Pune Police from Baner.

According to the police, the accused identified themselves as Amol Ramakant Ekbote (29) and Saurabh Pandurang Mane (25) are IT professionals working with a private firm.

The police also stated that the businessman was introduced to the accused along with three companions at a party a few months ago.

These men allegedly stole the login ID and password details of a betting application used by a businessman named Lotus Mobile App.

WHAT IS THE EXACT CASE

According to the police officials, Ekbote, one of the accused claimed that he had bagged 30,000 points on the app sing the businessman’s login. When Ekbote allegedly asked for Rs 30 lakhs for clinching these points, the bizman refused. Due to the refusal, the accused along with their partners took the businessman to a hotel in the Khed Shivapur area.

They allegedly snatched his mobile phone and clicked a photograph of the businessman’s PAN card to Ekbote’s WhatsApp, with a text saying that he will pay R 4 lakhs per week.

Recently, the accused allegedly asked for the first instalment of Rs 3 lakh. But the businessman lodged a complaint with the Pune City police. Acting on the same, senior police inspector Balaji Pandhare laid a trap and arrested Ekbote and Mane while accepting Rs 3 lakh from the businessman. The city police are on the run for the remaining three accused in the case.
