Pune: Leopard killed in a road accident near Katraj tunnel

Pune: In a shocking incident, a leopard was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Pune on Thursday. The incident took place near the new Katraj tunnel. The incident came to light after local residents heard a noise and found a leopard lying unconscious.

According to the police officials, “A leopard was found dead near Katraj New Tunnel around 2 am on Friday. As per the information, it seems the accident took place between Thursday night and wees hours of Friday. Getting information about this incident, we immediately rushed to the spot and inspected it. We alerted the forest department and it seems that the leopard was a year old. The leopard has sustained injuries on the face and mouth. The rear wheel of the car might have hit him on front. The leopard died on the spot.”

“Shortly afterwards, the forest officials arrived on the scene and took the leopard's body for autopsy. The incident is being further investigated” said Madhura Korane, Assistant Inspector of Police, Ambegaon Police Station told Sakal Times.

 “The leopard must have come from a thick bush near the Katraj tunnel. Since there are no predators in the forest, leopards may have come on the road. At the same time, a four-wheeler coming at high speed may have hit him,” Korane added.
