Pune: Man dies by suicide after harassed by wife and in-laws

The police found a suicide note at his flat alleging his wife, her father and maternal uncle for harassing him for money.

Pune: A 38-year-old techie working in Hinjawadi IT Park died by suicide on Monday. According to the police, he was found hanging on Sunday from a ceiling fan in his flat at Marunji.

The deceased has been identified as Abhijit Kharde. The police found a suicide note at his flat alleging his wife, her father and maternal uncle for harassing him for money. According to the police, he was fed up with the harassment from his in-laws for Rs 50 lakh. A case has been registered against three members of the family.

Abhijit’s mother has lodged a case against the trio. An FIR has been registered with Hinjawadi police station against his wife Neha, her father Nitin Bakre and maternal uncle Vishwas Joshi.

According to the complaint, Neha had filed many cases of domestic violence against her husband and also asked for maintenance expenses. Later they reached a settlement wherein the Abhijit paid Rs 20 lakh to Neha but her maternal uncle and father remained stubborn on the remaining amount of Rs 30 lakh.

Fed up with the torment, Abhijit died by suicide on October 31. In a note written before his death, Abhijit stated that he was fed up with mental and physical torture inflicted on him by Neha, her uncle and father. Police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against the trio. Hinjawadi police is probing the matter further.
