Pune, 7th August 2026: Even as damaged roads and potholes continue to trouble commuters across the city, Mayor Manjusha Nagpure has claimed that the city has witnessed fewer potholes this monsoon compared to last year.
Responding to questions during a press conference, Nagpure said potholes that develop during the rainy season are being repaired by the civic administration on a regular basis. She stated that the overall number of potholes is lower than last year and that repair work is underway wherever damaged stretches have been identified.
Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale, however, acknowledged that several city roads are riddled with potholes. He directed civic officials and engineers not to wait for complaints from citizens but to inspect roads themselves and undertake repairs on a war footing.
Bhimale also expressed concern over potholes reappearing at locations that were recently repaired, indicating that the quality of repair work needs improvement. He instructed officials to ensure durable repairs and minimise inconvenience to commuters.
According to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), extensive road repair work has been undertaken over the past month using different methods. The civic body repaired 2,540 metres of roads using cold mix, carried out 11,446 metres of hot mix asphalt resurfacing, filled 2,454 metres of potholes with gravel and murum, and repaired 109 metres using paving blocks.
The civic administration said repair work will continue across the city as the monsoon progresses.
