Pune, 10th August 2026: Metro commuters will soon be able to switch between the city’s two major metro corridors without stepping onto the road.

A 150-metre skywalk near Kamgar Putla in Shivajinagar is nearing completion and is expected to be ready by the end of August. The structure will connect Pune Metro’s Line 1, the Swargate–Pimpri Chinchwad corridor, with Line 3, the Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi corridor.

The project is being executed by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) at an estimated cost of ₹5.5 crore.

The skywalk will connect the concourse levels and paid areas of the two metro stations. This will allow passengers to move directly from one line to the other without exiting the station.

At present, passengers changing between the two corridors do not have a completely seamless interchange. The new connection is expected to make transfers quicker and more convenient, particularly for daily commuters and IT professionals travelling towards the Hinjawadi corridor.

MahaMetro Additional General Manager Chandrashekhar Tambwekar said the skywalk has been designed to allow passengers to move between the two lines without leaving the station premises or dealing with traffic around Kamgar Putla.

Although construction is expected to finish by the end of August, the skywalk will not open immediately after the work is completed.

The facility will have to undergo a mandatory safety inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS). It will be opened for public use only after receiving the required clearance.

The skywalk’s opening is also linked to the launch of the Line 3 station at Shivajinagar. Therefore, passengers are expected to start using the facility once the Line 3 station becomes operational and all safety approvals are completed.

The new skywalk will provide a covered and direct interchange between Line 1 and Line 3. Passengers with valid tickets will be able to cross between the two paid zones without exiting through the gates or navigating traffic at street level.

As Line 3 is expected to provide an important public transport link to Pune’s Hinjawadi IT corridor, the interchange is likely to improve connectivity between the city’s existing metro network and one of its busiest employment zones.
