Important Underground Metro Extension

The Swargate-Katraj metro route is a 5.46-km completely underground extension of Pune Metro Line 1, also known as the Purple Line. The corridor is expected to improve connectivity in Pune’s densely populated southern region and reduce traffic congestion on the busy Satara Road stretch.

The metro route will connect Swargate, one of the city’s busiest transport hubs, with Katraj, a rapidly growing residential and commercial area.

Stations Planned on the Corridor

A total of six underground stations have been planned on the route:

  • Swargate

  • Market Yard

  • Bibwewadi

  • Padmavati

  • Balajinagar

  • Katraj

Initially, the project had only three stations between the terminals, Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj. Later, Bibwewadi and Balajinagar stations were added to improve accessibility for nearby residential areas and reduce the distance between stations.

Once completed, the Swargate-Katraj extension is expected to strengthen Pune Metro’s public transport network and provide major relief to daily commuters travelling through the southern part of the city.
