Pune Metro trains: Three aluminium coaches to arrive in June next year

Pune: For the first time in India, aluminium coaches will be used in a metro train for energy savings as it would be very lightweight. Pune Metro trains will be having such 102 coaches. The first three coaches for the Metro will arrive in Pune city in June next year.

The Pune Metro needs 34 trains (102 coaches) for its two lines, the work of which was handed over to Titagarh Firema last year. Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Yojana, Metro coaches will be manufactured at a factory in Kolkata, Titagarh, but initially some coaches will be made in Italy.

For the first time in India, aluminium coaches will be used in the metro for energy savings as it is very light in weight. It will also benefit the Maharashtra Metro Railway Corporation (Maha Metro). The basic colour scheme of these coaches has been recently announced by Titagarh and the metro coaches are designed based on the European style.

Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary, Union Ministry of Housing and Civil Affairs has announced that the first Metro train will arrive in Pune in June 2021. Emphasis has been laid on passenger-centric facilities in the metro trains.

The design of Pune Metro coaches is different from all other metros in the country. The interior of the coaches will be decorated according to the colour scheme fixed for the metro lines.  Speaking to media persons, Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director of Maha Metro said, “Consistent efforts are being made to make the dream of Pune citizens come true even in crisis periods like the Covid-19 outbreak.”
